COLOR has developed, engineered and manufactured Diode Pumped Solid State Lasers (DPSS) for customers worldwide for more than five years. The laser crystal we use is Neodimium doped Yttrium Vanadate or Nd:YVO4 , which produces emission at a fundamental wavelength of 1064nm. The laser crystal is directly pumped by 808nm laser diode arrays eliminating costly and delicate fiber coupling. Years of development has resulted in a laser resonator design that is reliable, stable and exhibits M2 values less than 1.5. Lower power lasers are air cooled, or more specifically thermoelectrically cooled (TEC) and higher power lasers are cooled by a compact closed loop recirculating water chiller. All lasers manufactured are turnkey, CDRH compliant laser systems, complete with the cooling devices and power supplies unless otherwise specified. All lasers are manufactured in The United States of America.
| Air cooled (TEC cooling) lasers |
|
- smaller total package size
- less than five minute warm up time
- all solid state, no water
- high degree of reliability
- little or no noise operation (fan noise only)
- more precise temperature control of the laser diodes and crystal which means improved performance and stability

| Air cooled laser in development |
| Vanadate (Nd:YVO4) laser crystal |
|
- High damage threshold
- High peak power for q-switched lasers. Repetition rates between 25kHz and 75kHz are available. Peak power is significantly higher than similarly q-switched YAG lasers.

| Power |
|
| Power output ranges from 10 watts for the air cooled laser to 45 watts for a water cooled MOPA (Master Oscillator Power Amplifier) laser. The MOPA configuration uses a standard 20W oscillator and a 20W gain module to produce upto 45W of 1064nm output power. Lasers can be configured for continuous wave or q-switched operation. Typical power drop between cw and q-switched mode of operation is less than 5%. Presently, COLOR offers a standard 10W air cooled laser and custom solutions for 20W and over. Please contact or call for specifications on 20W and higher lasers. |

|
| CDRH compliance |
| All of COLOR’s stand alone lasers are compliant with the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 21, Subchapter J as enforced by the Center for Device Radiological Health (CDRH), a division of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). As a laser manufacturer, COLOR will work with customers to identify unique needs and provide complete hardware, documentation and labeling solutions. It is important to understand the nature of compliance with these federal regulations when specifying and placing an order for any laser. COLOR has the experience and expertise to advise customers not familiar with the complex legal requirements of CDRH. |
|
| Turnkey complete |
|
| Cooling devices, whether it’s a TEC system or a recirculating water chiller, are provided, unless otherwise specified. The cooling systems are carefully designed, engineered and tested for reliability and performance for each particular laser. Laser diode power supplies, laser control systems, safety systems and cooling systems are packaged in one rack-mountable chassis that is typically detached from the laser head. Custom design requests are welcome for fiber coupling, packaging, control systems, etc. |
| R&D |
|
| An important facet of COLOR’s business is laser R&D. We have developed and manufactured custom high power red, green and blue DPSS lasers based on our proprietary 1064nm gain module design. We have significant experience and expertise in non-linear conversion to visible wavelengths, specifically, 532nm, 440-450nm and 628nm. Contact to discuss you particular application or specifications. |
